Frisco Wakeland rebounded from an opening season loss to Grapevine to beat Fort Worth Brewer last night 28-6. It was the first victory as a head coach for new Wakeland coach Chan Isom.
Both teams were looking for their first win of the season after opening week losses.
Both teams struggled to move the ball in the first quarter. The Wolverines finally got on the board with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Ashdyn Kahouch after a nice run by Cooper Snyder. On the ensuing kickoff, Jaden Garrett of Brewer took it 95 yards to the house. The PAT was blocked and Wakeland held on to a 7-6 lead.
The Wolverines found success in the running game in the second quarter, as back-to-back drives led to touchdowns on the ground from Cooper Snyder and Colber Perkes. The Bears couldn’t get anything going on offense and Wakeland led 21-6 at halftime.
The Wolverines scored once more in the third as Brennan Myer hit Kahouch for a 5-yard touchdown. That was all the scoring for the game as neither team was able to punch it in the fourth.
Myer finished with 116 yards and 1 touchdown pass. SMU commit Tripp Reardon was his favorite target on the night, hauling in three passes for 65 yards. As always, the Wolverine offensive line was anchored by Texas commit Connor Stroh. The Wakeland defense was led by linebacker Barrett Kennedy and defensive end Tristan Simmons.
Brewer had a tough night offensively. Quarterback Jordan Clark accounted for 189 all-purpose yards, but wasn’t able to get into the end zone.
Wakeland has very little time to celebrate as they start their district schedule next Thursday against Frisco Heritage at the Star. Meanhwile, Brewer also starts their district schedule next with a tough game as they visit Justin Northwest.
