Jalin Conyers’ football journey has been anything but ordinary. Coming out of Gruver High School in the Texas Panhandle, Conyers was a four-star recruit with the size and athleticism to make an impact at the next level. Initially committing to Oklahoma, his career took several twists and turns, transferring to Arizona State before finally landing at Texas Tech for his final collegiate season. Now, after years of development and proving his versatility, Conyers is projected to be a late-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
At 6’4″, 265 pounds, Conyers has the ideal frame for an NFL tight end, and his blocking ability, athleticism, and run-after-catch skills make him a unique prospect. In his lone season at Texas Tech, he showed his versatility by contributing as both a pass-catcher and a short-yardage rusher, finishing with 308 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and a rushing score. His ability to create yards after the catch and hold his own as a blocker earned him an invite to the Shrine Bowland an NFL Combine appearance, further boosting his draft stock.
While Conyers isn’t viewed as an immediate TE1 in the NFL, scouts love his potential as an H-back or TE2, where his blocking, size, and deep-route ability could make him a key role player in an NFL offense. Some of the best fits for his skill set include teams like the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions, where he could develop behind established veterans. His draft stock may not be sky-high, but his athleticism, versatility, and Texas toughness give him a solid chance to carve out a career at the next level. From small-town Gruver to Texas Tech and now the NFL, Conyers’ journey is just getting started.
At the Shrine Bowl last month, reporter Taylor Arenz caught up with Jalin to ask him some fun questions:
