Every week, TexasHSFootball.com will present their official game ball honors to those that were the most impactful under the Friday Night Lights. Our experts watched numerous games and decided on the very best that Week Three had to offer.
Please post your own game ball honorees below or through our various social media channels. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on all suggestions.
Roel Sanchez Jr. (QB, San Antonio O’Connor)
It’s rare to acknowledge someone that threw three interceptions with the game ball, but San Antonio O’Connor quarterback Roel Sanchez recovered from a tough start to account for 286 total yards and six touchdowns. The senior bested one of the state’s top secondaries with Steele and is making the Panthers look like serious contenders in San Antonio. — Kyle Spishock
Quantavius Moore (WR, Navasota)
Navasota junior Quantavius Moore led the Rattlers to their first non-district win in two years when he had 211 receiving yards and three touchdowns on just five catches. Moore had scoring grabs of 18, 86 and 89 yards. — Scott McDonald
Joseph Ossai (DE, Conroe Oak Ridge)
Joseph Ossai, four star defensive end from Oak Ridge had a stand out game in a win against Klein Forest. He finished with 2 sacks and 5 tackles for loss. — Timothy Verghese
Zack West (QB, Henrietta)
I have to give it up for Zack West. Even though he tallied two fumbles, and limped off the field twice (the second time being a couple plays before the game tying touchdown with 12 seconds left in the fourth), he still rushed for 124 yards, threw for 215 yards and tallied four total touchdowns, one of which was the game winner in overtime. — Blake Wood
Marcus Johnson (LB/RB, Waco Midway)
Marcus Johnson was literally all over the field last Friday night against Temple, as he started at linebacker and ended up playing running back by the 3rd Quarter. When asked what went into the decision to put Marcus at RB Coach Hulme replied “Really out of desperation, our back up RB Malik his ankle is hobbled and our 3rd RB got hurt on special teams.”
Marcus was the Panthers last hope and having some experience at running back, but very little he came in and played lights out, finishing the game with 14 carries for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns. Marcus also stayed in the game on the defensive side of the ball as well, where he had a sack to secure the Panthers victory over Temple.
At his normal linebacker position Johnson, finished the game with 1 sack, 2 QB hurries, and 5 tackles. Per Coach Hulme, if starting running back James Fullbright misses the game Friday night against Waco High, then Johnson will be in the backfield once more, but take less snaps on defense. — (Garrett Ross)
Ed Williams (RB, Odessa Permian)
Ed Williams was the spark needed for the MOJO to pull away from El Paso Eastwood on Friday night, rushing 29 times for a season-high 206 yards and two touchdowns. He did most of his damage in the second half of the game and helped his team put away a tough Troopers team.
In Permian’s option offense, he’ll be a focal point moving forward as the Panthers get set to start district play next week. — (Tony Venegas)
