Garrett Nussmeier Shines in LSU’s First Scrimmage
Former Flower Mound-Marcus quarterback Garrett Nussmeier turned in a solid performance in the first scrimmage of fall camp for the LSU Tigers.
Nussmeier, a true freshman, was 11 of 17 passing for 225 yards and three touchdowns. By contrast, starter Max Johnson was 11 of 19 for 127 yards and a touchdown.
In the scrimmage, WR Kayshon Boutte and WR Brian Thomas each caught 5 passes. WR Evan Francioni caught four balls and WR Jaray Jenkins hauled in two.
Nussmeier continues to make plays and impress the LSU coaches during fall camp.
Johnson and Nussmeier are the only scholarship quarterbacks on the roster after Myles Brennan went out with an arm injury that required surgery.
At Flower Mound-Marcus, Nussmeier was rated a 4-star prospect by 247sports. He threw for 8170 yards and 85 touchdowns and 20 INTs (in 946 pass attempts) in his high school career.
2019 was his best year statistically on the prep level, passing for 3797 yards and 38 touchdowns and 10 INTs (in 431 pass attempts).
Nussmeier had 30 scholarship offers and chose LSU over Texas, Texas A&M, Penn State, North Carolina, and Miami, just to name a few.
Garrett is the son of current Dallas Cowboys QB Coach Doug Nussmeier.
The Tigers will have one more scrimmage next Saturday. The Tigers will then conduct a simulated game on August 28th at the end of camp. The Tigers season opener is against UCLA on September 4 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.
