In a stunning comeback, the Grape Creek Eagles defeated the Bangs Dragons 38-27 after trailing 27-0 at halftime. The team’s explosive second half featured an impressive offensive surge and a shutout defense. Quarterback Daniel Anchondo threw a pair of touchdown passes to Braley Woods, including a crucial one that narrowed Bangs’ lead to 27-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Woods also threw a touchdown pass to Angel Perez, while Sire Garcia contributed significantly with two rushing touchdowns and four two-point conversions. His 40-yard touchdown run with about six minutes left in the game gave Grape Creek its first lead at 28-27.
With this victory, Grape Creek improves to 1-2 on the season and looks to continue their momentum next week against Colorado City. Bangs, also sitting at 1-2, will visit Abilene TLCA in search of a turnaround.
