Texas A&M is getting a pure athlete in No. 14 Denton Guyer quarterback Eli Stowers.
In Saturday’s matchup against Amarillo Tascosa, Stowers and his group of wide receivers torched Tascosa’s secondary with an 8-of-11 passing performance for 231 yards and four touchdowns through only three quarters of play.
Stowers has been impressive all season, shredding opposing defenses with his arm and his legs.
On the year, Stowers has thrown for 2,876 yards and 36 touchdowns with only four interceptions. As a dual threat, he has amassed 1,083 yards rushing and another 10 touchdowns on the ground.
Seth Meador has been one of Stowers’ go-to targets, and that did not change on Saturday as Stowers hit Meador for a 41-yard touchdown pass on a beautiful double move by Meador.
“I just didn’t want to miss,” Stowers said. “Seth is such a good route runner and created so much separation. I just wanted to give him something to go get.”
“When I’m this blessed to have these quality receivers, they really do make my job easier as a quarterback. They create the separation, and I just have to get them the ball.”
Stowers is leading the quarterback group of the talent-rich Denton County area, and he is only a junior.
With a win Saturday, Stowers and the Wildcats will be playing for a state championship, which is one of his goals.
“For our seniors,” Stowers said, “us underclassmen are going and playing our hearts out for them — to get them a state championship.”
Guyer faces No. 8 Spring Westfield in a Class 6A, Division II semifinal Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sheldon ISD’s Panther Stadium in Houston.
