Humble Summer Creek Advances to the 6A DII State Final
In the Round 5 6A Division II State Semifinal game on December 9th, 2023, in Waco, TX, the Summer Creek Bulldogs faced off against the Cibolo Steele Knights. Summer Creek emerged victorious with a final score of 38-14. This win marked Summer Creek’s first time in both the semifinals and now the state championships in the school’s history.
Summer Creek Bulldogs
Summer Creek started strong from the beginning, moving the ball down the field efficiently. Just three minutes in, quarterback Blake Thomas threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to running back Lloyd Avant. Summer Creek’s defense then forced Steele to punt the ball back quickly. With 13 seconds left in the 1st quarter, Blake connected with wide receiver #5 for a 19-yard touchdown pass. In the back with possession in the 2nd quarter, Lloyd scored his 2nd touchdown with a long 47-yard rush, making the score 21-0. In the 3rd quarter, Summer Creek solidified their lead as Lloyd scored his 3rd touchdown with a 25-yard rush, and Blake found an opening for a 45-yard rushing touchdown.
Cibolo Steele Knights
Cibolo Steele, known for their strong offense, faced significant difficulty against Summer Creek’s defense. Despite their high-scoring reputation, Steele managed only two touchdowns in the game. Halfway through the 2nd quarter, quarterback #7 Chad Warner threw an 8-yard pass to wide receiver #10 Jalen Cooper. In the game’s final minute, running back #4 Avion Fareaux rushed for a 4-yard touchdown.
Cibolo Steele, despite not getting the result they wanted and not giving up until the final whistle, had a great season. However, Summer Creek’s determination shone through, leading them to make school history by reaching the state championships. The Summer Creek Bulldogs will now face the #1 Desoto Eagles at the AT&T Stadium for the 6A Division II State Championships.
