Hutto Stuns Vista Ridge with Second-Half Comeback Win

Austin Roof Inspection

Hutto delivered one of the biggest comeback wins of Week 10, storming back from a 20-7 halftime hole to defeat Vista Ridge 35-34 in a pivotal District 25-6A showdown at Gupton Stadium. The victory not only avenged last year’s loss but also pushed the Hippos to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in district play.

Vista Ridge came out firing, scoring on its opening drive and recovering a surprise onside kick to build early momentum. By halftime, the Rangers were in control, up 20-7. But the second half belonged entirely to Hutto — and to quarterback Kaden Stefek.

Stefek accounted for all four of Hutto’s second-half touchdowns, throwing three and rushing for one. His 13-yard strike to Jaiden Fields with 6:56 left gave the Hippos their first lead of the night. From there, the defense delivered the play of the game, forcing a crucial fourth-down stop with 4:21 remaining to seal the win. Fields finished with 170 receiving yards and two scores, while Stefek threw for 263 yards and continued his streak of three-plus touchdown passes for the fourth straight game.

Vista Ridge still had strong individual efforts, including two rushing scores from Quinn Szczytowski and a touchdown grab from DeShaun Castillo, but couldn’t match Hutto’s surge.

With the win, Hutto stays atop the district standings and controls its playoff path heading into a showdown with McNeil. Vista Ridge, now 6-3, is suddenly fighting for postseason survival as it prepares for Westwood
