Iola HC Pete Martinez Steps Down, DC Dwayne Ross Takes Over

After leading the Iola Bulldogs to a trip to the regional semifinals in 2016, Pete Martinez is stepping down from his positon as head coach and athletic director, according to the Navasota Examiner. Defensive coordinator Dwayne Ross will take over as head coach and the school’s new athletic director.

Per the report, there is no date set as to when Ross will officially take over but there is a process in place for the transition.

In Martinez’s four seasons, the Bulldogs posted a 34-14 record which includes a 12-1 mark and a trip to the state quarterfinals in 2014. This past season, the Bulldogs finished 8-5 before being eliminated by Tenaha in the 2A Division II Regional Semifinals.

Mark Cunningham will step in Ross’s previous role as defensive coordinator.
