In a story broken by Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s, after three solid seasons, Jamie Dixon is stepping down as Blanco’s head football coach and athletic director, he announced Monday.
Dixon didn’t just keep the Panthers on track, he helped push them further. His teams went 26 and 12, making the regional semifinals in 2022 and a regional final appearance in 2023.
The guy knows how to win. His overall head coaching record sits at 64 and 25, including a successful run at Vanderbilt Industrial, where he stacked up three straight 11 win seasons from 2019 through 2021.
Before that, he paid his dues as an assistant at places like Giddings, La Marque, Ingleside, Gonzales, and Greenville. So yes, he’s seen just about every kind of Texas football program.
Don’t expect him to stay off the sidelines long. His name is already being floated for other high profile jobs, and with that kind of resume, he’ll land somewhere soon.
As for Blanco, the job will draw serious interest. The Panthers rarely miss the playoffs and are in a great spot geographically, right between Austin and San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country.
Dixon leaves behind a winning culture. Whoever takes over next will have big shoes to fill.
