Black-Tree-3The Katy Tigers took the first step in their state title defense. The game had two offenses that couldn’t be more different. Travis came in with a high powered passing attack and Katy came in with the running game they are known for. Both showed up and played well, but the difference was Katy’s defense was just a little bit better.

On the first offensive play Katy’s running back Deondrick Glass went 59 yards for the game’s first score. Glass went on to have another great game. Glass finished with 28 carries for 286 yards and three touchdowns.

Travis never really threatened Katy, but also never went away. Travis actually outgained Katy in total yards, but just couldn’t get cash in. Three interceptions from quarterback Amryn Jeffrey and one from running back Naveon Mitchell were the main reasons Travis had trouble scoring.

Katy was up 31-12 at the half and cruised to victory and ended up winning 51-25. The season comes to an end for Travis finishing up at 7-4. Travis will be a team to keep up with as their quarterback, leading receiver and rusher are all returning next year. Arjei Henderson had a spectacular year with 1,400 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. It was clear he was Jeffrey favorite target, the 123 yards and two touchdowns proved that.

Katy heads to NRG Stadium Friday at 7:30 pm to take on Cy-Ranch and their undefeated Mustangs. Cy-Ranch put up 63 points in their Bi-District game against Bellaire. Katy ended the Mustangs season last year, but scored the most points the great Katy defense allowed. This is a different Katy defense, so this game could get interesting.
