Kilgore showed no signs of slowing down as the Bulldogs rolled past La Vernia 49-0 in the state semifinals, earning a second straight trip to the state championship game. From the opening drive, Kilgore controlled the tempo on both sides of the ball and never allowed the Bears to find a rhythm.
Quarterback Kayson Brooks set the tone with an efficient night through the air, throwing for 231 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 11.6 yards per attempt. Rayshaun Williams powered the ground game, rushing for 95 yards on just 12 carries, his strongest outing since October of last season. The balanced attack kept La Vernia on its heels throughout.
Defensively, the Bulldogs were just as dominant. Kilgore limited La Vernia to 2.9 yards per carry and pitched a shutout, extending a postseason run that has featured multiple lopsided wins. Now 14-1 and riding a 14-game winning streak, Kilgore advances to face Stephenville with a state title on the line.
