The Klein Collins Tigers faces off against the Atascocita Eagles in a battle of top Houston-area teams at KLein Memorial Stadium Thursday night. Both teams are coming off of huge non-district wins; Klein Collins defeated Houston Lamar and Atascocita pulling away from the Tigers’ district rival in Klein Oak.
Klein Collins pulled off an impressive win against a tough Houston Lamar team. The Tigers are led offensively by Quarterback Carter Rhyne and three-star running back Isaiah Spiller. Defensively, Houston linebacker commit Donavan Mutin and lineman Isaac Barron look to build on a successful season opener.
Atascocita pulled out a grinding win against Klein Oak, and now turn to the third best team in Texas (MaxPreps). Offensively, LSU commit Kenyon Green and Kendall Dearth go to battle in the trenches protecting quarterback Jack Roe. This is a strong team defensively that’s led by first-team all-district linebacker Jaylon Allen, first-team all-district cornerback and Wisconsin commit Travian Blaylock and all-district defensive end Brighton Thompson.
The Eagles are coming off a 6-1 record and a second-place district finish to North Shore from last season. They look to be a power once again and this could be a momentum shifting out-of-district win that could lead to a deep playoff run.
This team has big implications for both teams, who are looking to continue their strong start. Atascocita will be tough competition, but Klein Collins has a tested blue-collar system that rarely fails in big games. This should provide for an exciting matchup between two contenders.
