Klubnik And Westlake Look Unbeatable
The 3rd round of the Austin Westlake Invitational, better known as the 6A-II playoffs, featured the cliche matchup of David and Goliath as “host” Westlake took on PSJA-North. This one did not have an upset for the ages.
Cade Klubnik threw for 303 yards and 5 touchdowns in 1 half of work as the Chaps added the Raiders to the long list of teams not able to end Westlake’s dynasty 56-0. The Raiders were the only team from the RGV to reach round 3. They picked up a 1st down on their 1st drive but only managed 122 yards of total offense for the game. Westlake (13-0) blocked the ensuing punt, Klubnik threw a quick TD, and the upset bid was over.
Nathan Acosta ran for 74 yards while Jack Kayser added 71, who won their 37th straight game and still haven’t lost in the decade.
The Chaps will face former district rival Austin Vandegrift in the 4th round at DKR Stadium in Austin. Vandegrift beat Edinburg Vela a week after shutting out Cibolo Steele.
