On a dry night in Austin, the Lake Travis Cavaliers were able to hold off a pesky Austin Vandegrift team 40-28 in the final week of the regular season.
Senior quarterback Matthew Baldwin came out hot to start for the Cavaliers, successfully moving the ball down the field and eventually completing the first Cav touchdown pass caught by TE Kyle Wakefield (7-0). After stopping Vandegrift on their first possession, Baldwin went back to work as Baldwin found Garrett Wilson for a 20-yard touchdown on a fade route to make it 14-0.
The Vipers were still unable to reach the end zone and Hudson Card stunned the crowd, jumping over a Vandegrift player to catch the ball with another touchdown pass ending the first quarter at 21-0 for the Cavs.
Vandegrift found its momentum in the second quarter as Isaiah Smallwood ran the ball in for the first touchdown for the Vipers. Hudson Card and the Cavaliers would answer with a 35-yard touchdown run of its own.
With 2 minutes left in the game, Cavalier quarterback Matthew Baldwin is injured on the field with a sprained ankle taking him out of the game, scaring many. But the Cavaliers would hold off Vandegrift and earn a bi-district home game against San Antonio Madison next week.
