MANSFIELD- Lancaster and Mansfield Lake Ridge will be opening up their district chapter of the season as the two teams will face each other Friday night in a game that could potentially see the scoreboard light up plenty inside Newsom Stadium.
Lancaster (2-1) and Mansfield Lake Ridge (2-1) come into the matchup with back-to-back wins following opening losses in their respective seasons and both teams will be showcasing their top-tier quarterbacks in a gunslinger’s duel.
Lancaster will have senior quarterback Trevor Hatton at the helm with receivers such as Majik Rector and Latrell Caples ready to dissect the opposing defense. Running back Devante Lacy will be another prominent factor in the Lancaster offense as he is currently averaging 15.3 rushing yards per attempt and has seven rushing touchdowns on the season.
Lake Ridge on the other hand has senior quarterback Jason Bean who is riding a wave of momentum after relieving Chandler Rogers at halftime last week to throw for four touchdowns and give Lake Ridge the victory of Mesquite Poteet. Of course, Rogers is still available at a moment’s notice to be a viable quarterback option apart from being the team’s leading rusher as well.
Running back Dewone Jackson provides a notable backfield presence and there is the outstanding duo of TJ Graham and Malik Knowles that will have to battle the just as talented secondary of Lancaster with players such as Jordon Austin, Jaiden Dockery and Lorando Johnson.
Kickoff is scheduled at 7:30 and the beginning of district play in the 2017 season has a good one slated for Friday Night.
