Late FG Gives Aledo Thrilling Win over Guyer
The highly anticipated matchup between Aledo and Guyer lived up to the hype as the two Texas football powerhouses battled in a thrilling back-and-forth contest that wasn’t decided until the final seconds. Aledo junior quarterback Hauss Hejny directed a late game-winning drive, setting up Cole Crawford for the deciding 21-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Bearcats to a dramatic 48-45 victory.
From the opening kickoff, both offenses moved the ball relentlessly up and down the field. Aledo sophomore Raycine Guillory was unstoppable, finding paydirt four times on the ground. However, Guyer consistently answered, led by senior signal caller Logan McLaughlin. McLaughlin was on point, completing 20 of 27 throws for 314 yards and five touchdowns. He linked up with wideouts Josiah Martin and Corbin Glasco for two scores apiece.
After Guillory’s last touchdown gave Aledo a 45-37 edge late in the fourth, McLaughlin and Guyer reacted in a flash. McLaughlin floated a perfect deep ball to Glasco for a 64-yard major. They then hooked up on a two-point pass to Martin to tie the game at 45. It seemed McLaughlin had guided the game-winning drive, but Aledo still had time remaining.
As cool under pressure as always, Hejny orchestrated the Bearcats down the field with clutch passes and scrambles. A pivotal 19-yard scramble by Hejny placed them in field goal range. Crawford then split the uprights from 21 yards out as the clock hit zero to complete Aledo’s dramatic comeback victory in the final seconds.
The win kept Aledo unbeaten early and proved they remain among Texas’ elite. Despite the tough defeat, Guyer showed they have the weapons to battle with any squad after replacing stars from last year’s team. Both teams should make deep playoff runs.
