The Lexington and Caldwell football communities were united in shock and prayer Friday night after Lexington sophomore Jurian “Juju” Moore was airlifted from Hornet Field following a serious on-field injury.
The game was tied 28-28 with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter when Moore was tackled and reportedly took a knee to the back of his head. Witnesses said he showed little movement and drifted in and out of consciousness as medical personnel rushed to his aid. For nearly 10 minutes, both teams stood in silence while Moore received treatment before being carefully placed on a stretcher and flown by helicopter to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, where he was taken to the intensive care unit for evaluation and treatment.
Lexington head coach Kirk Muhl said Moore has movement in all extremities and is receiving close medical attention. His family has asked for continued prayers as he recovers, expressing gratitude for the tremendous support shown by teammates, fans, and the wider Texas football community.
A SupportNow fund has been launched to help the Moore family with medical and travel expenses during this time. Before the injury, Moore had been one of Lexington’s most versatile players — excelling on both offense and defense while helping lead the undefeated Eagles (5-0) to their best start in years.
Burleson County Sheriff Bill Rios offered his support, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with this young athlete, his family, teammates, and the Lexington community.”
The game was ruled a no-contest, but for everyone present, the scoreboard no longer mattered. As the Eagles prepare for next week’s matchup at Blanco, they carry with them a shared goal — to play with the same heart and resilience that define their teammate, Juju Moore.
