When the brackets were released on Sunday, the first thing you did was look to see whom your high school was playing and how their path to a state title could be. Looking around the brackets in all classifications, there are some really intriguing matches in the first three rounds that should get football fans around the state giddy.

Southlake Carroll vs. DeSoto Round 2 (6A Region I Division 2)– Two powerhouses in DFW and this is the matchup that got people excited. Southlake standout WR/CB Robert Barnes broke his fibula two weeks ago and is out for the season, which is a blow for the Dragons. For DeSoto this could be the year they finally win state if they can get past Southlake. Shawn Robinson at quarterback has made his team electric averaging 526 yards per game. If both teams can get pas their first round games, this is the game of round two.

Cedar Park vs Manvel Round 3 (5A Region 3 Division 1)– These teams were ranked #1 and #4 in our power rankings all season long. This is a game that you expect in the regional final or state semis. Cedar Park is looking to go back-to-back and Manvel coming down to 5A from 6A is looking to make them a power in the classification.

Katy vs Galena Park North Shore Round 3 (6A Region 3 Division 1)– While the teams have lots of changes from last year, these two schools are the reigning 6A champions. It’s rare to see a matchup of such powerhouse’s early but that’s the great thing of the playoffs. Katy has rebounded from early season struggles and North Shore continued from where they left off last season.
