On Friday night, the Palo Duro Dons traveled to Lowery Field to take on the Westerners from Lubbock High in a District 2-5A matchup. This is the first district game of the season for both teams. The Westerner’s Quarterback, Dallas Trevino, completed 12 of 22 passes and threw for 153 yards. Trevion also rushed for 23 yards. Trevino connected with receivers Derek Torrez, who had 2 catches for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Trini Tijerina, who hauled in 4 catches for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Lubbock struggled getting the ground game going, as Da’Zaun Jones only rushed for 46 yards, and struggled to find the endzone. The Westerners’ defense struggled to keep their team in the game, as the Westerners fell to the Dons 58-24.
The Dons will look to improve to 4-3 and 2-o in district play this week when they host the Abilene Cooper Cougars. The Cougars are just 1-5 on the season and are coming off a 21-42 loss to the Wichita Falls Rider Raiders.
The Westerners will look to notch their first district win of the season this week when they face the Plainview Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are an impressive 4-2 on the season, but they dropped their district opener in a close 34-36 battle against district favorite Abilene Wylie Bulldogs.
