The San Angelo Lake View Chiefs faced the Lubbock Westerners in a challenging matchup, ultimately losing 31-13.
Entering the game, Lubbock was riding high with a 2-1 record, having recently beaten Big Spring and Snyder, while Lake View looked to build on their first win of the season against Lamesa, which ended 55-42.
Lake View struck first with a touchdown pass from quarterback Chris Alvizo to receiver Francisco Rodriguez, taking an early 7-0 lead. However, the Westerners quickly responded with 31 unanswered points. After Alvizo’s interception allowed Malik Cartwright to return it 21 yards for a touchdown, Lubbock took a 14-7 lead. They extended their advantage to 17-7 with a 50-yard field goal by Yael Ontiveros right before halftime.
Throughout the game, Lake View’s offense struggled to maintain momentum, failing to score again until the fourth quarter. Despite a late touchdown pass from Alvizo to Daniel Munoz, Lake View’s efforts fell short against a strong Lubbock team.
With this loss, Lake View dropped to 1-3, while Lubbock improved to 3-1. Next week, Lake View will travel to face the Levelland Lobos, while the Westerners will meet the Amarillo Tascosa Rebels.
