Married Coaches Build Culture at Liberty High School

At Liberty High School, Vanessa and Bam Wafer aren’t just shaping athletes—they’re modeling what partnership looks like, both at home and on campus.

Vanessa Wafer leads the Panthers girls basketball team as head coach, while her husband Bam contributes to the football program as an assistant coach. Together, they bring a cohesive energy to Liberty’s athletics, grounded in trust and mutual support.

“There’s a balance that we have to have when we coach together and work together, and then still be husband and wife at home,” Vanessa said. “But being around the kids, being around the sport, that’s just who we are.”

Their presence on the same campus provides consistent mentorship for students, both in and out of season. “I think it helps the kids when they see us working together,” Bam added. “They know they’ve got support from both of us no matter the sport.”

The Wafers aren’t just part of Liberty High School’s coaching staff—they’re an example of how dedication, collaboration, and compassion can uplift an entire school culture.
