Matt Rhule leaving Baylor for NFL’s Carolina Panthers

The Baylor Bears are in search of a new head coach once again after Matt Rhule made the decision to leap to NFL, where he will be named the new coach for the Carolina Panthers.

The jump comes on the heels of Baylor’s complete transformation under Rhule, who guided the team from a 1-11 record in his first season (2017) to an 11-3 showing that included a trip to the Sugar Bowl this season.

The Bears’ program was in disarray when he arrived following Art Briles departure resulting from a sexual assault scandal.

Rhule takes over for Ron Rivera, who spent nine years at Carolina, and the move leaves Baylor searching for its fourth head coach in six seasons.
