The Duncanville Panthers, who Max Preps has as the #1 team in Texas and we have #6, faced off against the #1 team in the country, IMG Academy from Bradenton, Florida. When you play IMG Academy, in any sport, you are playing an all-star team with top athletes often from all over the country.
This was IMG Academy’s first time coming to Texas in more than 5 years. They made a statement and showed why they are the #1 ranked high school football team in the nation.
Duncanville, who is coming off of a 41-3 win over Sallas South Oak Cliff, got off to a good start. They led 7-3 and looked like they could go toe-to-toe with IMG. But, that changed quickly. IMG Academy scored the next 31 points. JJ McCarthy, the IMG QB who will likely be the starting Quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines next year, had two first-half touchdown passes, including a 61-yard pass to Shawn Miller. The lead for IMG was 17-7 at halftime.
IMG came out of for the second half focused, especially on defense. They forced two early Panther turnovers and scored on drives after each, opened up a 27-7 lead. A third touchdown pass by McCarthy put the game out of reach at 34-7 in the fourth.
Final Score: IMG 41 – Duncanville 14
Duncanville Quarterback Grayson James finishes 17-27 for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. Duncanville only had 86 yards of rushing. For IMG, McCarthy threw for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns. Duncanville will face Waco on October 23rd for their next game. Currently, Duncanville only has 5 games on their regular-season schedule, finishing with Mansfield at home and Hewitt Midway on the road. This game should be a good learning experience for the Panthers. Look for them to make another deep run in the playoffs.
