There’s still one more game left in the regular season and Waco Midway High School knows who’s next.

The Midway Panthers (9-0, 5-0) will host Grand Prairie High School at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 during the bi-district round of the UIL Class 6A playoffs.

“I was excited for our kids and our program because we’re in the playoffs, we’re district champions,” Midway Head Coach Jeff Hulme said. “You don’t really care who you play. I’ve known [Grandview coach] Gary Bartel and I’m excited for him and his program up there.”

Hulme, who used to coach at Mansfield, said he knows how hard it was for Grand Prairie (5-4, 4-2) to get through ins district. He says his team is focused on finishing off the season against Ellison. Because of his history, he expects the Gophers will be well-coached and a hard win.

“It doesn’t matter what their record is or anything like that, they’re in the playoffs and that makes them dangerous,” coach Hulme said.

Finally

The Panthers may finish the season undefeated, so they’ve known they would be here for a while. Midway found out its opponent Monday. It doesn’t take any pressure off but it does keep Midway from constantly wondering.

“You can relax a little bit,” Hulme said. “You don’t have everything riding on this one game or this and that. You catch your breath, you know you got at least one more game. I tell our guys, we’re guaranteed 10 games and we get plus-one now.”
