The state champion Mineola Yellowjackets have their new head coach, and as the trend has gone, it’s a hire from within. The new head guy will be former defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Luke Blackwell.
Congratulations to Coach Blackwell named tonight as new MISD Athletic Director / Head Coach for the Yellowjackets! https://t.co/uu929NGLRm

The Yellowjackets started the season 0-2, with losses to Van and Kaufman. After the first two weeks, Mineola went on a 14-game tear. The success can at least partially be attributed to Blackwell’s defense, who only allowed over 14 points three times during that 14 game run.
With the continuity in place at Mineola, there’s no reason to think that the Yellowjackets will be going anywhere on the landscape. They’ve been great for a while now, and as long as they can keep their foundation, they’ll be threats for many years to come.
