The Golden Gophers picked up their third commit from Texas with La Porte’s three-star defensive line member Albert Regis’ commitment to Minnesota on Wednesday.
Before his junior year, Regis played tight end. He even started as a tight end in the 2019 season, but with a shift in coaching, he was ready to take over on the defensive end of things when called up to the challenge. The 6-foot-1 athlete could be a major asset to Minnesota with his experience playing both sides of the ball.
With offers from schools like Baylor, Houston, Louisiana Lafayette and more, Minnesota became a clear answer for Regis. “What set [Minnesota] apart was how well they treated the community and how well they showed love to everyone else,” Regis said in a virtual interview with me. “The love they showed to me and how honest they were set them apart.” He most looks forward to making history and hopefully one day taking his talents to the NFL.
Despite COVID-19 suspending spring practices, Regis has remained active in working out and making sure his body also gets the rest time it needs in order to grow and function. “My goal is to become the best possible athlete I can become,” Regis said.
