Offensive Stat Monster

Chandler Rogers – QB, Mansfield Lake Ridge – 162 yards rushing, 7 TDs

In a win-or-go-home scenario, the sophomore quarterback proved that he can ball with a 7 TD performance against Waxahachie. Lake Ridge will likely stick with the two quarterback system as they head into the playoffs, but make no mistake, Rogers is the future.

Best Moments Caught On Film

I’m a huge fan of Port Neches-Groves rushing the first after breaking the streak archrival Nederland had on them. Enjoy it.

Most Surprising Score Of The Night

George Ranch 35, Alief Taylor 34

The Longhorns came into 6A with high expectations that were quickly shot down. They’re in a tough district that includes Alief Taylor, Pearland, and Pearland Dawson, and last week, they pulled off an upset of Alief Taylor to stave off going .500 on the year.

“Where Was The Defense?!” Score Of The Week

Things can get really strange in Frisco’s neck of the woods, as evidenced by this shootout.

Five Teams Who Impressed

Harlingen

The Cardinals took down previously unbeaten San Benito 29-27 last night, earning respect around the state. The Cardinals have flown under the radar this season, but don’t be surprised if this 8-2 team gives someone a scare or makes a big upset in the playoffs.

Flatonia

The Bulldogs took home their first outright district title in 26 (!) years. In a day and age where outright district titles are a rarity, it’s always good to be able to score one.

Vidor

The Pirates took out Port Arthur Memorial 31-21 last night, and it was a monumental win indeed. That splits their district into a three way tie for first place, and is going to be a source of some great playoff momentum for Vidor.

Refugio

Refugio just blanked a very good Shiner squad to the tune of 35-0. They’re really showing that they’re in a league of their own in 2A, and they’ll be tough to stop. There’s no shame in this loss for Shiner, that’s an incredibly good Refugio team that not many beat.

Wylie East

East gave Highland Park two regular season losses this season. If you remember that the last time that happened was in 1998, you win a prize because I spent fifteen minutes researching this to make absolutely sure that was correct.

Other Things That Should Be Mentioned

Poor Waxahachie

That’s a tough way for Jalen Reagor, one of the best wideouts in the state, to end his senior year, and a tough way for Coach Kitna’s squad to end their last two seasons.

Wild Games All Over The State – There were a ridiculous amount of close games this weekend, including a Waxahachie-Lake Ridge game that featured 50 points in the 4th quarter, Plano East edging out Plano Senior by one, Georgetown beat Connally to send Cedar Park to Division I, and Harlingen squeezed out a great win over San Benito.

Stay Safe, El Paso

There were also reports of hail at the SAC. Stay safe, El Paso fam, the playoffs start next week.
