Alfred Collins announced his decision to stay in state and play at the University of Texas.
He has been considered a heavy Texas lean most of his recruitment, but this past year things have really heated up for the elite defender.
Over the course of his senior season, and afterwards, his stock skyrocketed. He went from being one of the top defensive lineman in state to the top ranked defensive lineman in the state.
Alabama also became very involved and pushed hard for his services.
Alfred has the ability to play almost any position on the line and in any front.
He has very long arms and moves extremely well for an athlete his size. His feet are not heavy and his basketball skills really show on tape. He plays the run well, can bull rush and man the edges if needed.
That flexibility and freak athleticism is what gave him his fifth star, according to 247sports.com recruiting rankings.
Collins recruitment gives Texas the best group of in-state defensive linemen recruits of all the in-state schools with Cy Ridge’s Vernon Broughton and Longview’s Sawyer Goram-Welch joining the class as well.
Texas did miss out on Manor’s Princley Umanmielan to Florida, which would have given them arguably one of the top defensive line classes in the country.
