Team: Class 6A San Antonio Reagan
Gunslinger: Kellen Mond
2014 stats and end results: 139-232 passing, 1,745 passing yards (20 TDs), 1,142 rushing yards (14 TDs) and 4 INTS. Finished 12-2.
On June 22, Kellen Mond celebrated his 16th birthday. Two days later, he took a visit to Baylor. Before heading back to San Antonio, he announced an oral commitment to the Bears via his Twitter account.

As only a sophomore, Mond had multiple offers from the likes of TCU, Arizona State, Texas A&M and Auburn, to name a few.
So what makes him TexasHSFoootball.com’s No. 8 gunslinger? Well, considering he’s already committed to the Bears, he can now focus on one thing: football. With two more years of experience in a high-octane offense like Reagan’s, Mond will only get more comfortable and will get stronger and faster. With an undistracted Mond heading into his junior season, he’s sure to succeed.
Too many players who verbally commit as early as Mond did spend time thinking if they made the best decision.
Not for Mond.
“I’m definitely 100 percent Baylor,” Mond said to Ben Baby of the San Antonio Express-News. “I can also focus on football and connecting with my teammates even more so we can do big things in the playoffs and during the season.”
With such a focus, Mond won’t have the same worries. The young gunslinger has the mechanics and drive to become one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks near the Riverwalk.
This past weekend, Mond took part in the Prime21 camp. Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders held a camp of some of Texas’ top-tier talent. According to a tweet from ESPN’s National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton, he felt Briles and his staff made the right choice in offering Mond so soon.
Here’s a shock…#Baylor Art Briles evaluates QB’s really well. @TheKellenMond very good at Prime21. “Get’s it”. pic.twitter.com/YPHk5HYTQJ

Mond may be our No. 8 ranked QB this preseason, but next year he’ll surely jump a few spots, if not take the No. 1 spot in TexasHSFootball‘s search for the Top 10 quarterbacks heading into the next season. However, with all the talent in the Lone Star State, be sure to stay tuned for who finishes atop Mond.
