Texas High School Football is finally back! In Houston, Texas, on Thursday Night, August 29th, 2024, the season opened between two great teams: the Atascocita Eagles and the Lamar Texans. Last season, these two teams faced off during the playoffs, and the Atascocita Eagles came out victorious with a score of 34-14.

1st Half

Within the first 30 seconds of the game, Atascocita’s quarterback, Cardae Mack, took the snap himself on the opening drive and rushed down for an 80-yard touchdown run. Atascocita’s defense swiftly stopped Lamar and received back possession of the ball. Atascocita’s offense didn’t waste any time driving down the field, and running back Tory Blaylock rushed in for a 38-yard touchdown. The score was 14-0 in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Early in the second quarter, Atascocita’s second quarterback, Isiah Rasheed, kept the ball to rush for a 26-yard touchdown. With two minutes left in the second quarter, Lamar tried getting on the board with a field goal, but it fell short, and Tory Blaylock picked up the ball and scored a 69-yard touchdown. The first half ended with Atascocita having a huge lead over Lamar, scoring 28-0.

2nd Half

In the 2nd half, Atascocita’s offense took their foot off the break and drained the clock as much as possible to solidify their victory. In the final minute of the 3rd quarter, Cardae Mack scored Atascocita’s last touchdown, extending their lead to 35-0. Halfway through the 4th quarter, Lamar finally got on the board with an 18-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Vaurice Young. The game’s final score was 35-7, ending with Atascocita beating Lamar yet again and starting the season 1-0.

Next Week

The Lamar Texans have a tough matchup against the Summer Creek Bulldogs, who were runner-up in last year’s state championship game and recently beat Shadow Creek 42-0. The Atascocita Eagles have their yearly week 2 matchup against the Katy Tigers. This battle is always a competitive game between two of the best teams in the Houston area, and this year will be no different, with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess in week 1.
