Tom Thumb - DFW's Grocer Since 1948

Saturday night, Melissa kicked off their season by hosting a dominant Arkansas Parkview team, the reigning 5A D1 state champions from Arkansas. Melissa, known for their strong presence in Texas 5A D2, faced a stern test in this highly intense game.

Parkview opened the scoring in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown, taking a 6-0 lead. Melissa quickly responded with a touchdown to tie the game at 6-6. Parkview ended the half on a high note with a 69-yard rushing touchdown from senior running back Monterrio Elston, bringing the score to 13-6 at halftime.

In the second half, Melissa appeared to gain momentum but Parkview’s defense struck back, returning an interception for a touchdown to increase their lead to 20-6. Despite being down two scores, Melissa continued to fight. They managed to cut the lead to 20-12, but Monterrio Elston added another touchdown, extending Parkview’s lead to 27-12.

Melissa scored once more and successfully completed a two-point conversion, narrowing the gap to 27-20. However, it wasn’t enough as Parkview triumphed over Melissa 27-20, adding to their win column.

Next week, Melissa hopes to secure their first win of the season as they travel to play the Frisco Raccoons, who are coming off a 32-7 win against Little Elm. Parkview will face Maumelle, who recently dominated Sylvan Hills with a 36-0 victory.
