Philadelphia Eagles make splash picking former Channelview QB Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles made the first big splash of Round 2 of the NFL Draft by selected Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts (Channelview).

Hurts joins established starter Carson Wentz on an Eagle team that won the NFL East with a 9-7 record and lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional playoffs.

After transferring from Alabama, Hurts helped the Sooners go 12-2, win yet another Big 12 championship and make a return to the College Football Playoffs.

The Heisman Trophy finalist finished with a passer rating of 191.2, threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns. Hurts was one of the nation’s most coveted recruits during his days at Channelview, where he earned District 21-6A MVP honors as both a junior and senior.

Previously in Round 2, the Houston Texans took TCU defensive lineman Ross Blacklock (Missouri City Elkins) 40th overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault (Desoto) with the next pick, the Cleveland Browns took LSU defensive back Grant Delpit with the 44th pick and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Antoine Winfield (The Woodlands) 45th.

Hurts is the second former Lone Star Standout that the Eagles drafted thus far in 2020. Philadelphia took TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor (Waxahachie) with the 21st overall pick on Thursday.
