You can search the nation far and wide, but in the ranks of high school football, you will not find a more unique prospect than Houston Lamar cornerback D’Shawn Jamison. If one did not already know, the hype surrounding this top prospect is real.
Standing at 5-10, 174 pounds, one might conclude he is undersized for the next level, but recruiters and coaches will agree that he has put all doubt aside to those concerns in a big way.
In a limited number of games this year, Jamison still managed two interceptions and a staggering amount of tackles from the cornerback position. Most impressively, Jamison is an extremely hard-nosed tackler from his position, making play after play in the backfield to negate some of the state of Texas’ best running threats in his district and beyond.
This four-star recruit is also versatile in any defensive package, lining up in the nickel formation as a corner, but also lining up at safety and blitzing off the edge. This is down to his explosive speed, which is not only seen on the defensive side of the ball, but as well in the kicking game. This prolific returner can take it to the house on punts, kickoffs and even squib kicks. The big play ability is present no matter what side of the ball Jamison is lined up on.
23 offers sit on the table for this Lamar Texan, and of those host of schools are the likes of USC, Penn State, Michigan and most recently Notre Dame. Although the attention for his services span the map of the continental U.S., insiders are predicting that Jamison is keen on staying in The Lone Star State. His options: Gary Patterson’s TCU and Tom Herman’s University of Texas. After attending both junior days earlier this year, odds makers are predicting that Texas will be the Houston Lamar standout’s destination.
With this being said, and more offers surely on their way, we cannot yet solidify if Texas indeed will land this premiere corner. What we do know is this: football intelligence, skill to match it, and a little bit of swagger to steal the show – D’Shawn Jamison is destined for the big time and now in 2018, we will see where that big time ultimately is.
