In the 2019 season, Gay was the second-leading receiver for Red Oak with 39 receptions for 756 yards and nine touchdowns. The junior helped lead Red Oak to the 5A Division II Region II semifinals during an 11-2 season.
Gay is a dual-sport athlete where he also puts in work on the track. With JV district titles in the 200 meters and 4×100 relay in 2019 and a first place in the 200 at the Waxahachie Big Green Relays in 2020, Gay would add speed to Oklahoma State.
