Houston Texans wide receiver Keith Mumphery will not be stepping foot on his old college campus anytime soon. According to Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press, the former Michigan State wide receiver was expelled from the East Lansing campus for “violating the university’s relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy.”

According to information obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by the newspaper, Mumphery is accused of sexually assaulting a female student in her dorm room in March of 2015, which is after his playing career at Michigan State ended but while he was still enrolled at the school in a graduate studies program. He was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round of the NFL Draft later that year.
According to campus police, Mumphery and the woman met on an online dating site and met a few weeks after the fact. The police report also indicates that there were conflicting stories on who was the aggressor and what sexual behavior was consensual.
The police forwarded the case to the local county prosecutor’s office who recommended third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges. Mumphery was not charged with a crime after the prosecutor determined that the case could not be proven without a reasonable doubt and the accuser did not return contact.
According to The Free Press report, Mumphery is also banned from re-enrolling at Michigan State and is also banned from campus or other university facilities until December 31, 2018 and is subject to arrest should he violate that order.
In two seasons with the Texans, the wide receiver has caught 24 passes for 198 yards and has also been used as a kick returner.
Per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network, the Texans are “gathering information” about the situation and did not comment on the situation.
