The Magnolia West Mustangs became the first team since 1975 to score 97 points or more in a Texas high school football game and just the sixth team ever to score that many. The record is 103 by Valley Mills in 1969.
Magnolia West put up 97 points on Conroe Caney Creek on Friday. Starting Quarterback Brock Dalton threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Hunter Bilbo had 115 yards and three touchdowns. The Mustangs did turn to the backups, but they kept scoring. Backup QuarterbackJaydon Berryman added two more touchdowns. Ian Keck was another 100+ yard rusher with 111 yards and two touchdowns. They also had a 100+ yard receiver as Trey Leggett had 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Caney Creek totaled -10 yards of offense. The talk on Twitter on Friday night was a debate as to if scoring 97 points was appropriate. The Mustangs did turn to backups early, and at positions in which they could, they went to the third string. Short of a mercy rule, or asking the players to not give their best, the Mustangs would have had to take a knee on each play to keep the score down.
Magnolia West, now 4-1, plays at Waller next week. The Waller Bulldogs are 2-2 and coming off of a 56-6 win over Conroe Caney Creek themselves. The Conroe Caney Creek Panthers, who have been outscored 33-251 this season and are now -04, will look to get their first win against Magnolia next week.
LOL @ running up the score. This country continues to diminish the winners and prop losers. It’s unreal. You give up 97 points halfway through the season?? In EVERY sport, defense is the easiest thing to coach UP. It takes lesser skill and more want and coaching than anything else. If you are getting mauled in the second half of a season? YOU ARE the problem.
