The San Angelo Central Bobcats secured a crucial 23-13 win over Odessa on Saturday, rebounding after a weather delay postponed their Friday night matchup. The game initially kicked off with Odessa leading 7-0, but a lightning delay forced the teams to reschedule. Playing in a quieter San Angelo Stadium, with no bands due to a UIL marching competition, the Bobcats faced early challenges.
After the restart, Central struggled in the first half, with a tipped interception and a fumble in Odessa’s red zone. Despite these setbacks, the Bobcats rallied, scoring 14 unanswered points to take a 14-7 halftime lead. Christian “Squeaky” English played a key role, scoring three touchdowns, including a short-yardage rush that extended Central’s lead.
Just as Central appeared to seal the game, Odessa struck back with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Santiago Medrano to Xavier Parales, narrowing the gap to one score. Ultimately, Central’s resilience and steady performance allowed them to hold on for the victory, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
The loss drops Odessa to 0-4 in district play and 2-6 on the season. They host Midland Legacy next week in their last game of the season. San Angelo Central improved to 4-5 on the season with this first district win. They finish their season at Frenship. Frenship is currently in first place in District 2-6A with an overall record of 8-1.
