Second Baptist Dominates LSA with 27-7 Victory
On Friday, October 20th, 2023, I decided to watch The Second Baptist Eagles (4-4) vs The Lutheran South Academy (LSA) Pioneers (2-6). Despite their records, I heard both teams have some hidden talent that I was looking forward to watching.
The Pioneers received the 1st kickoff. Second Baptist’s defense was solid; LSA could barely run or pass the ball. When Second Baptist got on offense, quarterback #10 Canon Toon had many options to distribute the ball. Running back #21 Langston Davis is great at staying low and has an explosive get off, and University of Nebraska commit #8 JD Crisp is an incredible athlete playing on both offense and defense as wide receiver and cornerback. JD had an amazing one-handed catch for the 1st touchdown of the game. Later on, Langston rushed in for the 2nd touchdown of the game, and LSA could not get on the board in the 1st half, making the score 13-0 at halftime.
Second Baptist received the kickoff in the 2nd half and had a big return that put them on the 50-yard line. This later led Langston to score another touchdown, furthering Second Baptist’s lead to 20-0. LSA scored their 1st touchdown due to #24 Kai Connelly’s great catch and speed. Second Baptist answered back with another touchdown, and despite all of LSA’s effort, they could not score again. This resulted in a final score of 27-7, with Second Baptist securing a playoff spot.
Even though LSA lost, the performance of #24 Kai Connelly and #12 Braeden Robinson impressed me. Kai played numerous positions like running back, wide receiver, and linebacker, seamlessly transitioning to each position. Braeden was an aggressive cornerback who could properly read plays and provide great coverage. I hope that a university will recognize these young men’s talents and allow them to play at the next level.
Next week, The Second Baptist Eagles will have a district game against The Beaumont Kelly Lions, and The Lutheran South Academy (LSA) Pioneers will have a district game against The Woodlands Christian Academy (TWCA) Warriors.
