Seth Davis Wins Game on 57-Yard TD Run
The #6 and #10 teams in 6A put on a battle Friday night and proved the worthiness of their rankings. In the end, the #6 team in the state, the Katy Tigers, came out on top at home against the Humble Atascocita Eagles.
The most anticipated game of week 2 was a back-and-forth battle, and for a while, it looked like the Eagles might get the win.
Katy struck first, scoring on a 14-yard touchdown run from QB Caleb Koger. The Eagles responded to tie the game at 7, and then took a 14-7 lead on a 77-yard drive with 5 minutes to go in the first half. But, Katy tied the game once again with under a minute to go in the first half.
The second half was much of the same, a close-fought back-and-forth game. Katy took a 21-14 lead when Koger hit Caleb Koger Adam Jackson for a 23-yard touchdown. The Eagles responded with a rushing touchdown from Tory Blaylock on the next drive to tie it at 21. In the 4th quarter, Koger hit Micah Koenig for a 13-yard touchdown and a 28-21 lead.
Atascocita responded in the fourth with a long drive to tie the game at 28 with 2 minutes to go. It looked like overtime was inevitable. But, a few plays later, Katy running back Seth Davis took the ball 57-yards for the play of the night and the winning touchdown. The Eagles had the ball back with over a minute to go, but turned the ball over on downs. Katy held on for the 35-28 win.
Seth Davis finished with 190 yards and 2 touchdowns. QB led the offense for the Eagles, throwing for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns.
