The music was playing, the gold was shining, and South Oak Cliff stood right where it believed it belonged again.

South Oak Cliff capped another dominant season with a 35-19 win over Richmond Randle in the Class 5A Division II state championship, securing the program’s third state title in five seasons and its first since 2022. The victory also snapped Randle’s 31-game winning streak and delivered a full-circle moment after last year’s heartbreaking loss on the same field.

From the opening series, SOC played with purpose. After an early interception set up a short field, Jayden Williams found Torrin Teague for the game’s first touchdown. One possession later, Mikail Trotter broke loose for a 30-yard score, and the Golden Bears were rolling. Even when Randle countered with a historic 100-yard kickoff return by Landen Williams-Callis, SOC never blinked.

Trotter was the difference all night. The senior needed only 11 carries to rack up 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns, repeatedly turning small creases into game-changing runs. His 40-yard touchdown late in the second quarter pushed the lead to 28-7, and his 44-yard burst nine seconds into the third quarter made it 35-10, effectively sealing the outcome.

Just as important was a South Oak Cliff defense that answered every challenge. Facing one of the most productive offenses in Texas, the Golden Bears swarmed to the football and bottled up Williams-Callis, holding the five-star back to a season-low 121 yards on 32 carries. SOC also picked off Randle quarterback Tyler Skrabanek twice and consistently won the battle at the line of scrimmage.

Randle showed fight late, adding points in the second half, but the gap was too large. The Golden Bears controlled the pace, the physicality, and the moment.

Under Coach Jason Todd, South Oak Cliff has become the very thing people once said it could never be. Five straight title appearances. Three championships. A standard that now defines the program.

This one was about more than a trophy. It was about proof. South Oak Cliff is no longer chasing history. The Golden Bears are writing it.
