The highly anticipated Area playoff matchup between Huntsville and South Oak Cliff began with high energy, but the Golden Bears quickly set the tone. Richardson stunned early by taking the kickoff return for a touchdown. South Oak Cliff’s defense and methodical offense proved too much for the Hornets. By halftime, the Bears led 10-0 and never looked back.
Second Half Surge Seals Victory for South Oak Cliff
South Oak Cliff exploded in the second half, scoring 28 points to put the game out of reach. Junior running back Mikail Trotter carried the ball 27 times for 154 yards and a touchdown, wearing down Huntsville’s defense. Quarterback Carter Kopecky added to the offensive onslaught, completing 7 of 11 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Huntsville Struggles to Find Offensive Rhythm
The Hornets managed just 95 rushing yards, as South Oak Cliff’s defense stifled their ground game. A few big plays were negated by penalties, further hampering Huntsville’s chances. Despite flashes of brilliance from junior running back Trae’Shawn Brown, the Hornets couldn’t maintain momentum.
Bright Future for Huntsville Despite Loss
Although Huntsville’s season ended with an 8-4 record, the team showed promise. Freshman quarterback Zay Adolphe gained valuable playoff experience, finishing the season with a 3-1 record as a starter. Key players, including cornerbacks Kenneth Scott III and Brent Carroll, are set to return next season.

With their tenth consecutive win, South Oak Cliff moves to 10-2 and continues their quest for a state championship. Their dominant performance against Huntsville cements their position as a title favorites..
