Spring rolls over Klein Oak 49-0
The Spring Lions (1-0) hosted the Klein Oak Panthers (1-0) under the lights of Planet Ford Stadium on Thursday night.
Both teams had impressive wins in Week 1. Spring QB Bishop Davenport threw for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns in last week’s victory over Fort Bend Travis. According to 247sports, Davenport is committed to Utah State.
Klein Oak also has a weapon in the backfield, with running back Keishaun Wooten rushing for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns in their 41-6 win over Dekaney last week.
Spring Dominates Klein Oak
But, Spring set the tone early. The Lions scored on each of their 4 drives in the 1st quarter, as Davenport threw for a pair of touchdowns and added two more on the ground as Spring led 28-0 after the 1st quarter.
On the other side of the ball, the Lions shut down Klein Oak’s offense, limiting the Panthers to just one first down in the 1st half. Davenport threw for 2 more touchdowns in the 2nd quarter as Spring led 42-0 going into the half.
Spring continued to dominate the game in the second half. Late in the 3rd quarter Davenport connected with senior wide receiver Cadyn Bradley for a 25-yard catch and score, Bradley’s second receiving touchdown of the game.
Davenport Turns in Impressive Numbers
Davenport exited the game in the 3rd quarter, taking the rest of the night off. He finished 13-20 with 306 passing yards and 7 total touchdowns (5 passing, 2 rushing). He has passed for over 300 yards in back-to-back weeks and has nine touchdown passes.
Spring’s defense continued to smother Klein Oak, and the Lions closed out the game with a final score of 49-0 to improve to 2-0. The Lions’ defense is allowing just eight points per game early in the 2021 season.
