State Champion Timpson Bears Name New Head Coach
Coming off of the first state championship in school history, the Timpson Bears will have a new Head Coach.
Head Coach Kerry Therwhanger announced his retirement in January. Therwhanger led the Bears to a 56-3 record over the past four seasons, and in December, they won the 2A Division 1 State Championship with a 49-7 win over Tolar.
Patrick Gandy will take the helm for Timpson. Gandy has been at Timpson since 2012, just six months after graduating from college. For the past five years, he has been serving as the Defensive Coordinator. As the DC this year, he coached a defense that gave up just 10.7 points per game and produced 3 shutouts.
Gandy has been serving as the interim Athletic Director since Therwhanger stepped down, and he will now serve in that role full-time while also being the new Head Football Coach. While the Bears graduate several star players, like Terry Bussey, they should still have an outstanding team for the 2024-25 season and will be a threat to make another deep playoff run under new Head Coach Patrick Gandy.
