Braswell High opened in 2016 and there was a sense of optimism in the air as they looked to make history and set a foundation for success in the coming years.
The Bengals would loss that game 37-3 and finish their first official season with a record of 2-8. After finishing 3-7 in 2018, it seems the team has finally turned a corner as already this season they have matched their win total for the first two seasons combined.
Braswell currently sits tied for second place in the 5A District 7 standings with Denison and Lovejoy. Since their lost to #1 ranked Frisco 33-28, who is only a game ahead in the standings the Bengals offense has exploded as they have put up scores of 56, 59, 65 and 37 during their winning streak.
A ground and pound style of football by the offense has been a major factor in the success of the Bengals as they have 3 rushers with at least 60 carries. Senior Isesimi Yessuff leads the team in yards with 494 while also accounting for 4 touchdowns. Junior Jamerion Sanford, who has seen 90 attempts adds in another 392 yards. Senior Cameron Laura and Tristian McClary have combined for a total of 9 touchdowns between the two.
The combination of Senior quarterback Greyson Thompson and Jr. Cam Smith has helped keep defenses honest as well. Thompson has thrown for 2,015 yards with 20 touchdowns, 9 of which have gone to Smith.
The team has a key road matchup this week with Princeton High followed by their final home game of the season against Lake Dallas. A possible district title matchup awaits them in their final game of the season against Denison.
