District 6-5A D1 had a nice week as three of the four teams advanced to the area round of the playoffs this weekend.  The three wins were all decisive, but the road gets much tougher going forward.

FRISCO REEDY VS DALLAS WT WHITE

The one seed Lions got the weekend started off right on Thursday with a big win over four seed WT White.  Reedy jumped out to a 36-0 halftime lead and never looked back.  Quarterback Caleb Deal threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and Dennis Moody added 3 touchdowns on the ground.

NEXT UP:

The Lions will face a hug test this week in the area round against the Lancaster Tigers.  Lancaster finished second in district 7, and is ranked fourth in the state (Reedy is 7th).  The Tigers lost two games this season, to number one Longview in district, and to Denton Guyer, one of the top teams in 6A.  They’ve definitely been battle tested.  The game will be played Friday night at Ellis Stadium in Irving.

FRISCO LONE STAR VS RICHLAND

The Rangers continued their hot streak with a dominate 55-15 win over Richland.  Lone Star has now won 7 games in a row after starting the season 2-2.  QB Bennet Fryman had another big game accounting for 4 touchdowns, and freshman running back Davion Groce had 145 yards and three touchdowns.  This one was over at half as Lone Star was up 48-7.

NEXT UP:

The Rangers get the unlucky draw of having to face number one Longview, the team who is the consensus favorite to win the state championship.  The Rangers will need their elite defense to step up to help keep them in the game against the Lobos.  Longview comes in at 11-0 with their closest game being a 21-13 win over Lancaster.  The game will be played at Kincade Stadium in Dallas on Friday.

FRISCO WAKELAND VS BIRDVILLE

After a back and forth first half, the Wolverines took control in the second half.  Wakeland took a 21-14 lead to halftime and came out hot in the second half as LB Bret Ginn’s interception led to a quick score for the offense.  The Wolverines went on to a 42-28 win.  Quarterback Brennan Myer continued his strong season with 337 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Ty Gleason, filling in for injured starter Cooper Snyder, had 83 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

NEXT UP:

Wakeland gets a road trip this week, traveling to Lufkin to take on Port Arthur Memorial.  Memorial is 10-1 and coming off a high scoring first round game against McKinney North.  Expect a high scoring affair as both offenses have put up big numbers this year.  This could be one of the most entertaining games of the week.

FRISCO HERITAGE VS MANSFIELD TIMBERVIEW

The only team to fall last weekend was Heritage, as they had a tough task against Timberview, the number two team in the state.  Heritage actually got on the board first with a D’Andre Stephens interception return, and they were only down 14-7 at half.  But Timberview’s running game was too much as the Wolves ran for 364 yards and won 33-14.  Heritage finishes the season 6-5, earning their first playoff birth since 2014.  With several younger players on the roster, the future looks bright.
