Summer Creek Beats Atascocita in Thriller

Austin Roof Inspection

Summer Creek and Atascocita delivered one of the most thrilling finishes of the Texas high school football season Friday night at Turner Stadium. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 3 in the state, survived eight lead changes and rallied for a 38-35 win that kept their perfect season alive.

Trailing by four with under two minutes left, Summer Creek quarterback Noah Spinks showed why he’s one of Houston’s rising stars. After throwing an interception just minutes earlier, the junior calmly led a 90-yard march downfield, connecting twice with Trenton Thomas to move the Bulldogs to the goal line. With six seconds remaining, Braylin Causey punched in a one-yard touchdown to seal the comeback.

Spinks finished with a monster performance — 29-of-43 passing for 499 yards and three touchdowns, showing elite poise and accuracy. His favorite target, Benny Easter Jr., turned in another jaw-dropping outing with 13 receptions for 218 yards and three touchdowns, including a spectacular grab in the back corner of the end zone that briefly gave Summer Creek a fourth-quarter lead.

Atascocita, though, was just as explosive. Senior quarterback Cardae Mack, an Arizona State commit, gave everything he had, rushing for 206 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing for 153 yards and another score. Running back C.J. Toney added 216 total yards and a touchdown, helping the Eagles reclaim the lead midway through the fourth quarter before Summer Creek’s final drive.

Both teams traded momentum all night. Atascocita jumped ahead early behind Mack’s legs, but Summer Creek answered through the air. The Bulldogs couldn’t get much going on the ground — just 44 rushing yards total — yet Spinks and Easter’s connection more than made up for it, proving decisive in the end.

For Summer Creek, this win represents more than a perfect 5-0 record. It’s a statement that even after the graduation of former star quarterback Blake Thomas, the Bulldogs remain a legitimate contender in Class 6A. They’ll host C.E. King next Thursday, while Atascocita looks to regroup against Humble on October 10.
