In a commanding performance at NRG Stadium on November 29, 2024, the Summer Creek Bulldogs defeated the Katy Jordan Warriors 54-20 in the Class 6A Division II regional semifinals. The Bulldogs showcased their offensive firepower and opportunistic defense, scoring 42 unanswered points to overcome an early deficit and secure a spot in the regional finals for the third time in four years.
First Half: A Momentum Shift for Summer Creek
The game began with Katy Jordan taking an early lead as Dominic Cangolosi connected with Landon Williams for a 9-yard touchdown. However, Summer Creek quickly responded in the second quarter with quarterback Blake Thomas scoring on a 20-yard run to tie the game. The Bulldogs’ defense then took over, forcing multiple turnovers that led to quick scores, including a 46-yard touchdown run by Thomas and a fumble recovery touchdown by Jashaud Johnson. By halftime, Summer Creek held a commanding 28-7 lead.
Second Half: Bulldogs Extend Their Lead
Summer Creek continued their dominance in the second half. Thomas connected with Holden Miller for a spectacular 48-yard touchdown, and Bryalin Causey added a 2-yard rushing score. While Katy Jordan’s Zion Jones broke the Bulldogs’ scoring streak with a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown, it was not enough to mount a comeback. Summer Creek responded with a field goal and another touchdown by Aaron Alexander to extend their lead.
Defense and Special Teams Shine
The Bulldogs’ defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and stopping key fourth-down attempts by Katy Jordan. Special teams also contributed, with Caleb White returning a blocked PAT attempt for two points. These efforts ensured Summer Creek maintained control throughout the game.
Looking Ahead to Regional Finals
With this win, Summer Creek improves to 11-2 and advances to face either Houston Strake Jesuit or district rival Humble Kingwood in the regional finals. Katy Jordan ends their historic season with an 11-2 record, marking significant achievements in only their third varsity season.
