Talent Spotlight: DJ Lagway and Xavion Brice
We all know that Texas high school football is a hotbed for recruiting, and there is immense talent across the state, regardless of their class or star rating. With that in mind, two names are profiled here:
DJ Lagway and Xavion Brice
DJ Lagway
Lagway runs the offense for the Willis Wildkats. A 6-3, 190-pound quarterback, Lagway has passed for 594 yards, 9 TDs, and 1 INT. He has also rushed for 393 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Against Tomball, Lagway passed for 227 yards and three touchdowns. In the game vs Bellaire, he passed for 184 yards and six touchdowns in a 50-27 win.
He accounted for 3 total touchdowns and 1 INT, plus 60 yards rushing vs Klein Collins. All total, Lagway has accounted for 987 total yards so far this season.
He has already attracted the interest of college coaches at summer camps and now has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Houston, LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.
Lagway and the Wildkats take on The Woodlands Highlanders Thursday night at 7 PM at Woodforest Stadium.
Xavion Brice
A two-way player at quarterback and cornerback for Arlington Seguin. Brice plays approximately 90% of his team’s snaps. He projects to play cornerback in college so his coach, Joe Morgan, makes sure he practices about 50% of the time with the defense so he can work on his coverage skills and footwork.
He is a 3-star prospect that is committed to Oklahoma, according to 247sports. He holds 11 scholarship offers from Utah State, Tulsa, Tulane, Kansas, Baylor, Hawaii, Illinois State, Missouri, SMU, and Texas.
So far this season, Brice has passed for 440 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 INTs. He has also added 466 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 12 yards per rush. Brice has accounted for 906 total yards.
In 2020, he played wide receiver and had 469 yards and 3 touchdowns receiving.
Seguin travels to take on Everman on Friday night at 7 PM.
