The Dallas News named Desoto quarterback Shawn Robinson their player of the week thanks in part to his seven touchdown performance against Midland. Robinson was methodical, having completed 17 of his 33 passing attempts for 276 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He rushed the ball 18 times for 240 yards and three scores.
To date, Robinson has completed 55 percent of his passes. He’s incredibly precise and poised in his role as a signal caller. The 6-foot- 1 dual-threat from Desoto is committed to TCU and is set to showcase his talents in the Army All-American Game.
For TCU fans who miss the days of Trevone Boykin and Andy Dalton, they’ll get a player who possesses a skillset that is a combination of both QBs in Robinson. He is not limited in any way, shape or form. He can kill you on the ground, or dissect you through the air.
Robinson chose to commit to TCU over Texas, Alabama, Auburn and several other big name universities. The four-star recruit is building chemistry with his receivers. Imagine what his stats will start to look like once he gels with the team.
What was most impressive about Robinson’s performance against Midland was the way he led the Desoto Eagles to their victory. The Eagles were down 43-41 with 1:53 remaining on the clock. Robinson displayed his ability to execute the two-minute offense against Midland. He capped off the drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Laviska Shenault. He sealed the deal with a two point conversion. Desoto’s success will rely on the ability of Robinson to finish games strong like he did against Midland. It has to be rewarding for the Frogs to see such a young quarterback already have such confidence and control over an offense. Hopefully, that aspect of his game will carry over when he heads to Fort Worth.
